Services

Psychotherapy promotes emotional health and feelings of wellbeing. The goal is to assist you in developing and understanding new perspectives which in turn lead you to a more productive and fulfilling life. As a healthier sense of yourself evolves, you will notice that you can maintain and enjoy more positive and healthier relationships.

Individual Therapy

I have many years of experience working with individual clients. I have treated adults and adolescents over the age of 16 whose problems ranged from difficulties at the workplace or at school, through relationship difficulties, to more serious issues such as severe depression, crippling anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, addiction disorders and codependency. Individual sessions may be 45 or 90 minutes long.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy provides a safe place for spouses, friends, parents and children to meet and discuss their needs, hopes and disappointments. In couples therapy, each partner will be encouraged and supported to explore his/her resentments and fears. Couples will learn the rules of fair fighting and with new found cooperation, reset the goals of their relationship. I recommend 90 minute sessions for couples, so there is plenty of time for each person in the couple to talk.

Group Therapy

Groups offer opportunities to meet new people, observe new behaviors both in oneself and others, and practice communication skills. In addition, you will have the opportunity to consciously experience how you develop relationships and both give and receive criticism, caring and support. I prefer to work with groups of 5 to 7 members, which have a specific focus and set time limits. For example, a 10 week group can meet to explore, express and support members' grief over the loss of an elderly parent. Another group for people in chronic pain can get together with the goal of developing alternative ways of coping with their pain. A 15 week group may be helpful for people undergoing major life transitions. A 20 week group meeting to share traumatic war experiences can assist veterans in dealing with their post traumatic stress disorders.

Supervision

Over the last 10 years I have supervised interns and post-graduate students in how to conduct psychotherapy. Supervision is a formal relationship in which a supervisee presents session notes and we go over them together with the goal of deepening the supervisee’s understanding of his/her patient, and improving the supervisee’s therapeutic technique. I sign off on all of the hours of supervision so that these hours may be submitted to meet the requirements for licensure.

Consultation

I have several years of consulting with businesses and organizations. Typically these consultations involve identifying and solving problems in the workplace, such as removing difficulties in team building, clarifying goal setting, developing fair methods of dealing with disruptive employees, creating interventions and treatment plans for problem employees, improving group communications, and providing referrals. I have extensive experience consulting in a variety of medical settings.

Seminars and Presentations

I have taught seminars, workshops and individual lectures on depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, death and dying, and Civil War nursing. I have taught in nursing schools, colleges and in first responder courses for those involved in public safety and fire prevention.

If I come into treatment with you, will your services be covered by insurance?

I am a provider for only two insurance companies: Pacificare and United Behavioral Health. If you are insured by either one of these, yes, my services will be covered to the extent of your insurance plan. For all other insurance plans, I am considered out of network. I recommend you call your insurer and find out about your outpatient mental health benefits and limits, both in and out of network.
